Windows Server Chinese Language Pack: How to Install and Switch Language

When deploying an overseas Windows Server or VPS (US/HK nodes), the pre-installed operating system defaults to English. You can easily switch the system interface to Simplified Chinese for easier daily management.

Here is a detailed guide to install and configure the Chinese language pack:

Solution 1: Online Installation via Settings (Recommended)

For most Windows Server 2019/2022 and Windows 10/11 instances, you can download the language pack directly via Windows Settings.

1. Log in to your server via RDP as Administrator.
2. Press Win + I to open Settings.
3. Click Time & Language -> Select Language on the left menu.
4. Under Preferred languages, click + Add a language.
5. Search for Chinese, select Chinese (Simplified, China) and click Next.
6. Check Set as my Windows display language and Language pack, then click Install.
7. Wait for the download to finish (2-5 minutes). When prompted to sign out, click Yes, sign out now and reconnect RDP.

Solution 2: Change System Locale (Fix Garbled Text)

If some Chinese applications still display garbled text or ??? after changing the display language, you need to adjust the system locale for non-Unicode programs.

1. Open Region Settings

Run CMD as Administrator and execute:

intl.cpl

2. Change System Locale

Switch to the Administrative tab in the pop-up window and click Change system locale....

3. Select Chinese (Simplified, China)

Choose Chinese (Simplified, China) from the drop-down menu, click OK, and restart your server for the changes to take effect.
